Set Design: The Tempest

Fall project in second year Costume and Performance Design at AUB (2016). Set design and 1:25 scale model for a theoretical performance of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, initial sketches, and design process.

I knew that I was interested in slowly representing a chess board within the set. I initially wanted to cover the floor with sand and have actors brush it away, however I eventually found a solution with light up tiles that would be much more manageable for health and safety. The myriad of configurations would allow for maze-esque stage layouts as Prospero carefully manipulates the characters within the play.
